Clifford Blakey MFA, BA, BWS, FIGA is a Northumberland artist who paints Contemporary Landscapes, Seascapes, Still Life and Figurative paintings.
Born in 1957 he was educated at Newcastle University in the 1970s and 80s where he gained his degree in Fine Art and his Master of Fine Art. Under the teaching of Norman Adams RA Clifford was inspired to follow his career as an artist.
An artist for over 35 years, Clifford has exhibited widely in England and Scotland and has works in private collections all over the world, including the United States, New Zealand, Australia, Spain, France and Belgium.
He teaches private Art Classes for Art Groups in venues around Northumberland and his work is on permanent display at his Studio/Gallery 'Northern Coast Gallery' at North Broomhill in Northumberland.
Clifford has completed important commissions for the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland and in the past he has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Show, The Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters, has won prizes such as the Bockingford Watercolour Prize and in 2021 has opened his own gallery Northern Coast Gallery to exhibit his new work as it is completed. He is a lifelong Fellow Of The International Guild Of Artists.
"Northern Coast Gallery" will exhibit Clifford's new work including finished paintings, drawings, sketches and those who visit will be able to see Clifford working and talk to him about his practice as an artist.
Clifford's paintings are also exhibited on a regular basis at Blagdon Gallery near Morpeth in Northumberland and The Biscuit Factory Gallery in Newcastle Upon Tyne and Haslam's of Hallgate in Hexham, Northumberland.

Northumberland artist Clifford William Blakey was born 1957 in Newcastle
Clifford was educated at Newcastle University and has aBA Hons Fine Art (1980) and is aMaster of Fine Art (1986).
During his time at University he worked in the Hatton Gallery, Newcastle University.
After University Clifford Blakey worked as a Museum Cataloguer in Social History and Fine Art at Sunderland Museum.
After his Master of Fine Art course he worked for Manchester Artists Studio Association and Sculptors in Greater Manchester association as an administrator before returning to Newcastle where he became the Editor of the Northern Arts what's on magazine 'Index'.
Clifford then set himself up as a freelance graphic designer with his company Ikon Creative Design Studio where he worked for theatres, charities, local authorities, public bodies, engineering companies and PR companies. During all of this time Clifford continued to paint and had success showing at The Royal Academy Summer Show.
Exhibiting mostly at the Dial Gallery in Warkworth, Northumberland, he subsequently had many shows there and at The Old School Gallery in Alnmouth, Northumberland and Off The Wall Gallery in Corbridge, Northumberland. His work can now be seen at Blagdon Gallery near Morpeth, Northumberland and also at Haslam's of Hallgate in Hexham, Northumberland and The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Clifford exhibited for may years with the British Watercolour Society where he became a Member of the Society and also a Lifetime Fellow of The International Guild of Artists. He has won many prizes for his paintings including the Saunders Waterford Prize for Watercolour. He has also exhibited with the Royal Society of Watercolour Painters at The Mall Galleries in London.
He has had many solo exhibitions and has shown with various commercial art galleries in the North and South of England and Scotland.
In 2021 Clifford set up his own studio/gallery "Northern Coast Gallery" at The Old Bath House in North Broomhill, near Amble Northumberland where his work is on permanent display and the gallery is open on Saturdays from 11am - 4pm.

Launch of my new, small, limited edition prints.
For the first time ever in my 30 year year career I am launching a series of small limited edition prints of my work.
It's all part of the Winter Open Studios at The Old Bath House and I am really excited about this!
I hope to see you there. The event is free and all the resident artists are showing their work along with invited artist and crafts people.
There are also refreshments.
